How Receiving Help can Simplify Success

Our natural tendency as competitors can be to carry our burdens and plow forwards despite the warning signs. But there is a simple formula en route to success and starts by not only requesting help, but learning how to receive it.
It was a pleasure to visit with Founder & CEO of Treppendahl Landscape, Rob Treppendahl on this episode to learn all about his career journey and the powerful lessons he collected along the way that made him the successful competitor he is today.
Within the conversation, Rob allows us a front row seat into his story of shame, optimism, and getting help. While the hole he was once in seemed too deep to climb out from, he and his business emerged for the better.
ROb delivers great insights within our discussion including:
- The need to seeing circumstances exactly as they are
- How optimism can drive even the darkest circumstances
- Why receiving help is a true catalyst for personal and professional growth
- How the systems we create can serve our ultimate goals

Robert M Treppendahl
Business Owner and Executive Coach
I have owned a landscaping company for the past 10 years. I started it at age 24, and now at age 34, I have more or less, worked myself out of a job. I read the book, The 4 hr workweek, five years ago and really set out to do that. We are there. My business journey took a major turn in October of 2016 when I ran into a fellow business owner in the landscape world at an event hosted by our mutual supplier at a Nascar Race. This conversation with my new friend, Garrett, ended up being the paradigm shift my business needed. Up until that point I had struggled as a business, growing in revenue rapidly but also swimming in debt and working 90 hrs a week. Between Garretts advice and mentorship and implementing traction tools, I was able to turn around a company almost half a million in debt (much of it high interest loan shark debt) into a profit machine that paid off all the debt in just over three years, and now with a very capable leadership team which allows me time to travel with my family. As I look to the future, I want to help other business owners achieve the kind of life changing success I have found. And, frankly, I need a new challenge. My company is doing really well, but I am starting to, as many visionaries do, get a little bored with it. Also, my wife and I currently live in Baton Rouge, LA where I was born and raised but we are moving to Greenville, SC on August 1. We want to be able to pursue a more active lifestyle, better weather, more trout fishing, mountains, ect. If we move, I’d keep my company in BR and come back probably every 4-6 weeks.
